NGS Open Gardens 2014 – what’s going on where?

Spring is almost here and it’s time to get outside again. Last year I opened my garden for the first time as part of the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) and loved it. The  2014 ‘Yellow Book’ has hit the doormat and I’m looking forward to taking part – with an Open Garden & Secret Craft Fair again!

In 2014 there will be over 3800 gardens and allotments open to the public across the UK. You can find out where they are by –

  • Getting hold of a copy of the Yellow Book which is great value at £9.99 – with a large percentage of that going to Charity
  • Checking on the website – searchable by postcode, garden name, distance or date

Another source of information about the open gardens is the free county guides. These are printed and distributed locally. Here is  a PDF of the Leicestershire & Rutland Guide, feel free to download it, share it and save for future reference via this link Leicestershire 2014

I’ve recently joined the County team for Leicestershire as the publicity lead. One of my first actions has been to set up a Twitter feed for the county. It’s growing quickly and is a great community of like-minded people with a love of horticulture. Follow  @LeicsNGS for news and chat about gardening and more. Many of the counties have Twitter feeds – you’ll find a list of them here  – and the main NGS here @NGSopenGardens
