Mat Tacey – The Green Woodpecker
Mathew creates unique, quirky items using reclaimed wood and found objects. With his love for gardening and nature he began to experiment, creating individual bird boxes which are aesthetically pleasing as well as practical, although with their attractiveness many customers like to keep his work inside as an art piece as well as outside for the birds.
When he realised the popularity of these items he then started to create other pieces such as bee boxes and bird feeders but still keeping his creative stamp. Mathew is now looking into home items to be made from his love of recycling and the beauty of wood.
With the importance of preserving wildlife and keeping the tradition of the English garden alive, Mathew’s work encourages the love of the garden inside and out. Why ‘The Green Woodpecker’? Woodpeckers are Mat’s favourite bird, green his favourite colour and green relates to both wood and ecology.
Mat will be creating a bird box shanty town in the apple tree at our NGS Open Garden & Secret Craft Fair in Loughborough, Leicestershire on the 7 & 8 of June.
You can view and purchase work by Mat, and the artists and makers exhibiting at the Secret Craft Fair including, Bridget McVey, Helen Rhodes, Jane Bevan, Olivier Marc Thomas Leger and anon.creatives.
